Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts promoted one Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy to serve as the supervisor of a road patrol shift, one deputy to serve as the supervisor of the Special Operations Unit and three deputies to serve as criminal investigators.

Metts promoted William Freund, 31, of Columbia, to the rank of sergeant and assigned Freund to serve as the supervisor of a road patrol shift in the West Region Patrol District, which is based near Gilbert. Freund previously served as an investigator in the Major Crimes Unit. On November 3, 2008, Metts appointed Freund to serve as a deputy.

Metts promoted Michael Scott Ellis, 32, of Lexington, to the rank of sergeant and assigned Ellis to supervise the Special Operations Unit, which is comprised of the Lake Murray Marine Patrol, Midlands Incident Management Team and homeland security operations. Ellis previously served as an investigator in the Major Crimes Unit. On September 8, 2004, Metts appointed Ellis to serve as a deputy.

Metts promoted Douglas Edmonson, II, 31, of Columbia, to serve as an investigator with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET). Edmonson previously served as a road patrol deputy in the Chapin community. On October 22, 2007, Metts appointed Edmonson to serve as a deputy.

Metts promoted James Kemfort, 39, of Lexington, to serve as an investigator in the Major Crimes Unit. Kemfort previously served as the assistant supervisor of a road patrol shift in the West Region Patrol District. On November 6, 2006, Metts appointed Kemfort to serve as a deputy.                                   

Metts promoted Miles Rawl, 32, of Lexington, to serve as a property crimes investigator in the North Region Patrol District, which is based near Irmo. Rawl previously served as the resident deputy in the West Lexington community. On April 23, 2007, Metts appointed Rawl to serve as a deputy.
