Lexington One Educational Foundation welcomes ambassadors

The third class of Lexington One Educational Foundation Ambassadors received an up-close and personal look at the learning taking place in Lexington One schools.

The class met on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at Meadow Glen Elementary, the district’s newest elementary school, to learn more about the district’s mission and vision, current building plan, the district’s Schools of the Future — Now! initiative, world language programs and much more.

After hearing from district administrators, students led the ambassadors on a tour of their school. The ambassadors’ tour included a visit to a Chinese partial-immersion classroom, the Learning Commons (media center) and a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) lab.

“The foundation established the program to help our community members become more familiar with our schools. The program provides our community leaders an in-depth look at what is happening in our district and allows them to share the message of legacy, tradition and excellence of Lexington County School District One,” said Connie McFarland, executive director of the district’s Educational Foundation.

The fall class of ambassadors includes: Scott Adams, vice president and general counsel for Prysmian Group North America; Jerry Bellune, editor emeritus for The Lexington County Chronicle; Monti Caughman, teacher/consultant for the South Carolina Geographic Alliance; Angela Douda, PTO president at Meadow Glen Elementary; Suzanne English, representative from Carolina Behavior and Beyond and SIC chair at Meadow Glen Elementary; J.R. Fennell, director of the Lexington County Museum; Dr. William Harman, physician with Lakeview Family Medicine; John H. Holladay, retired community member; Major Jay Koon, assistant chief of the Town of Lexington Police Department; Hazel Livingston, mayor pro-tem for the Town of Lexington; Dr. Dan Pannella, orthodontist at The Braces Place; Katrina Shealy, representative from the Davis-Garvin Agency, Inc.; and Debbie Summers, member of the Lexington County Council.

Members of the Educational Foundation’s Board of Directors nominate individuals for the group and the Educational Foundation’s Executive Committee makes the final selection.

The fourth class of Educational Foundation Ambassadors will meet on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Meadow Glen Middle, the district’s newest school. MGMS opened on August 22, 2012.
