The Columbia Classic Chevy Club donated 450 toys and 31 bicycles to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department for the agency’s annual Holiday Toy Drive.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies will distribute the donated toys and bicycles to children in Lexington County whom deputies determined are in need of assistance.

“The Columbia Classic Chevy Car Club always strongly supports our agency’s Holiday Toy Drive,” Metts said. “We are very thankful for the club’s support of our agency’s mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County.”

The Columbia Classic Chevy Car Club also donated $1,500 to the Sheriff’s Department that deputies will use to buy winter coats and diapers for children whom deputies determined are in need of assistance, Metts said.

The Columbia Classic Chevy Car Club conducted a drive-in event on December 8 at the Woodberry Plaza shopping center near West Columbia in order to donate new, unwrapped toys to the Sheriff’s Department for the agency’s annual Holiday Toy Drive, Metts said. Questions concerning the drop-in event should be addressed to William Clayborne with the Columbia Classic Chevy Car Club at (803) 606-0509.

Lt. Kevin Blackmon is coordinating the Sheriff’s Department Holiday Toy Drive, Metts said. Citizens who have questions concerning donations can contact Blackmon at his office at (803) 785-2411.

Metts said donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted until Christmas Eve at the following Sheriff’s Department facilities:

  1. Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington
  2. North Region Service Center, 111 Lincreek Drive, Columbia
  3. South Region Service Center, 102 Airport Road, Pelion
  4. West Region Headquarters, 4079-B Augusta Highway, Gilbert

Monetary donations also will be accepted at the four Sheriff’s Department facilities, Metts said. Checks should be made payable to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, noting that the check is for the Holiday Toy Drive.
