Benedict College Set To Refurbish Campus Walking Track

Starting in April, the Campus Walking Track next to Mays Arena at Benedict College will be refurbished. Benedict College won $10,000 from the 2012 Home Depot Retool Your School Competition. The new Campus Walking Track will have improved green space and will help to improve access to the student fitness area.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8738 names White Knoll High teacher,1st Sgt. David Pelley, VFW High School Teacher of the Year.

 

Pelley was also named Patriot of the Year by the Lexington Knights of Columbus.

PHMS teacher wins Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year

 

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) selected Pleasant Hill Middle Teacher Steven Woodyard as the 2012 VFW South Carolina Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year.

 

VFW Post 8738 in Lexington nominated Woodyard for the state award. He will represent South Carolina in the National Citizenship Education Teacher Award competition in March.

Partial Trail Closing At Riverfront Park

Due to construction work associated with the Broad River Bridge project, the north end of the walking trail at Riverfront Park near the Broad River Bridge will be closed from Monday, December 10 through Friday, December 14.

The Riverfront Park itself will remain open throughout the time of construction and the public will still have access to the walking trail leading up to the construction barricades at the 2 mile marker.  City Parks and Recreation officials are asking the public to use the Laurel Street park entrance and to avoid the barricaded end of the trail.

Street closures announced for NYE fireworks test December 2

On Sunday, December 2nd from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Main Street in downtown Columbia between Pendleton and College Streets will be closed.

The street will be shut down to test the fireworks that will be used during the Famously Hot NYE celebration.
