Homeowner charged after illegal gambling devices found on property | News
WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- Lexington County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a homeowner after they seized 20 illegal gambling devices from a storage building on his property in West Columbia.
66-year-old David Lee Chase was charged with three counts of unlawfully possessing a gambling device. He was arrested after turning himself in Tuesday and is out on $7,500 bond.
Sheriff James R. Metts says investigators working with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division found the devices last week in a storage building in the 3100 block of Greenwood Drive.
Deputies were called to the home Wednesday afternoon for a report someone was attempting to break into the mobile home where the machines were stored. While investigating, deputies found the machines and other items that appeared to have been used in a bar.
Investigators seized the 20 Pot-O-Gold video poker machines and a Lexington County magistrate determined all of them were illegal video gambling devices. State law requires a magistrate to determine if each device is illegal.
