Deputies seize 73 weed plants in "sophisticated" growing operation | News
WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says drug investigators discovered and seized 73 marijuana plants that were part of a "sophisticated indoor marijuana manufacturing operation" on Rainbow Circle in West Columbia.
Deputies also arrested 32-year-old Theodore James Prosalenti on charges of possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it.
Metts says deputies learned of the growing operation inside of Prosalenti's home and began an undercover investigation two months ago.
"It's uncommon to see a sophisticated operation like this where he'd actually converted two rooms inside the residence into grow rooms," said Sheriff's Department spokesperson Maj. John Allard.
Metts says Prosalenti also installed electric grow lights, a separate ventilation system, and a separate climate control system in those two rooms.
"From looking at it, he was obviously someone very familiar with how to do an indoor marijuana growing operation," said Allard.
As Prosalenti was arrested, deputies seized the plants and also located dried marijuana stored in mason jars, a handgun, and $1,752 in cash.
Neighbors say they never noticed anything suspicious at Prosalenti's house. In fact, they say he was pretty quiet and stayed to himself.
Prosalenti was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center where he is currently being held for a bond hearing.
