City of Columbia to Host Small Business Week Conference

 

The U.S. Small Business Administration is recognizing National Small Business Week from May 20-26, 2013.  Understanding the importance of small businesses, the City of Columbia’s Office of Business Opportunities will be hosting the Small Business Week Conference on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

LCSD, LPD to host fourth annual Cops and Calabash

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Lexington Police Department officers will work as servers during the fourth annual Cops and Calabash fund raiser for South Carolina Special Olympics that will be conducted between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 23 and between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, May 24 at a Fatz restaurant, 942 East Main Street, Lexington. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics.

Palladium Society's Renovation Rodeo Series Continues May 21

 

The Palladium Society, the young professionals society of Historic Columbia Foundation, continues its Renovation Rodeo tour series on May 21, featuring a home in Shandon.

 

This private tour series is a roundup of old homes in the Columbia area that have been refurbished and renovated while staying true to the roots and history of the house. Attendees get to see the renovation first hand while speaking with the homeowner and contractor who worked on the project.

2013 Lexington County firefighter’s boot drive announced

 

On Thursday, May 16th, Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th, 2013, Firefighters from Lexington County Fire Service, Columbia-Richland County Fire Department, Irmo Fire District, West Columbia Fire Department, Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department and members of Lexington County EMS will participate in the 12th  Annual Jeff Chavis Boot Drive to collect funds to support the operations of the Jeffrey Vaden Chavis House at the Joseph M. Still Burn Unit in Augusta, Georgia.

The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is holding its second annual iCivics Day on Monday, May 20, to help teach students about civics and inspire them to be leaders in our democracy.

 

More than 60 YLD attorney volunteers will travel to 44 schools throughout the state to present to more than 5700 fourth and fifth-grade students on the following topics:
