Man arrested after deputies say he stole beer from delivery truck | Crime
WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Lexington County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man after they say he stole two cases of beer from a delivery truck Tuesday.
40-year-old Richard Eugene Richards of Gaston is charged with breaking into a motor vehicle. He is held on $42,780 bail at the Lexington County Detention Center.
Sheriff James Metts said the truck was delivering beverages to a convenience store on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia Tuesday evening when Richards opened a sliding door and stole a case of beer. Metts said Richards hid the stolen beer behind a garbage can and tried to steal more beverages from the truck.
Metts said deputies found Richards in the store's parking lot, and the truck driver identified him as the person he saw removing beer from the truck.
Richards is also accused of vehicle break-ins that occurred in parking lots at Lexington Medical Center. As deputies searched him during the arrest, Metts said they found several brass pipe fittings that Lexington Medical Center public safety officers said had been stolen from the center's maintenance vehicles parked at the hospital. The hospital's public safety officers told deputies Richards was seen in the hospital parking areas Tuesday morning.
If you have any information about these cases, or other cases possibly involving Richards, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC.
