Sheriff: Man arrested who up owed more than $261K in unpaid child support | Crime

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department fugitive investigators arrested an Alabama man wanted for more than 10 years for repeatedly failing to make court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County.

Deputies say 66-year-old Wayman Earl “Butch” Wilson was arrested on Monday, January 21 and faces charges in connection with his failure to make court-ordered child support payments totaling more than $261,000 in Lexington County.

 Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said child support payments owed by Wilson is one of the largest child support arrearages that fugitive investigators have ever investigated in Lexington County.

The report said on January 10, fugitive investigators obtained a criminal arrest warrant for Wilson on a charge of failing to provide financial support for a child.

The arrest warrant alleges that since July 1, 2002 Wilson failed to make court-ordered child support payments totaling $261,313 in Lexington County even though Wilson was an able-bodied person who was capable of earning a livelihood.

Fugitive investigators determined that Wilson was living in Fayette, Ala., and contacted the Fayette County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office, the report stated.

Fayette County sheriff’s deputies arrested Wilson in Fayette, Ala., after confirming that Wilson was wanted by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department on the arrest warrant for failing to provide financial support for a child,deputies say. Wilson was booked at the Fayette County (Ala.) Jail, where Lexington County sheriff’s fugitive investigators picked up Wilson and transported Wilson to Lexington County, where Wilson was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center at 9:13 p.m. on Monday. 

Wilson was being held on Tuesday, January 22 at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond, Metts said.
