Report: Toothless suspect uses store phone to call ride after stealing toothpaste

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shoplifting call at the Family Dollar located on Highway 321.

Upon arrival, officers met with the cashier who stated she observed a black male enter the store and place two tubes of toothpaste and two packs of batteries into his pocket, the report stated.

Deputies say before leaving the store the suspect asked the clerk if he could make a phone call.

The report said while the suspect was on the phone, the cashier overheard him say “hey man, if you come pick me up, I will make it worth your while”.

After the call, the suspect left the store and got onto a red mountain bike and circled the parking lot before heading down Wood Trail Drive, the report stated.

Deputies say the clerk called the number back and was able obtain the first and last name of the suspect.

The report said the suspect is described as a short black male in his mid 50’s, no teeth and last seen wearing a fleece jacket.

The suspect's name has not been released yet.
