Report: Amazon employee caught hiding 3 Ipod Touches in work gloves

An Orangeburg man was arrested after attempting to steal three Ipod Touches from his employer, sheriff’s deputies say.

According to a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department incident report, 27-year-old Justin Marshall was arrested on one count of petit larceny and two counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent.

Deputies say on August 28, officers were dispatched to Amazon located on 12th Street in reference to a larceny.

Upon arrival, deputies met with Amazon’s loss prevention officers who stated that when Marshall walked through the screening process to leave Amazon an alarm was activated, the report stated.

Loss prevention officers say they searched Marshall’s belongings and found three Ipod Touches in his work gloves.

According to the report, Marshall admitted to trying to steal the items.

Deputies say Marshall added that he went to the restroom, locked the door and removed the Ipods from their packaging and placed them in his work gloves.

Marshall then left the packaging in the restroom and proceeded to leave the building through the security checkpoint where the Ipods were discovered in his gloves, the report stated.

Deputies say Marshall explained to them that he was behind on rent and needed to steal the Ipods to make money.

The three Ipods Touches have an estimated value of $860.

Marshall was arrested and transported to Lexington County Detention Center.
