Online Battle of the Bells Competition Set to Begin

You’ve seen the Salvation Army Red Kettles out in store fronts, but the Online Red Kettle is a way for individuals and groups to help people in need by raising donations through email and social networking.

The Salvation Army of the Midlands introduces “Online Battle of the Bells,” a competition to allow Midlands organizations to compete to raise the most donations digitally. The winning team will receive free catering service for up to 40 people from Yesterday’s Restaurant in Five Points.

As the Salvation Army of the Midlands prepares to kick off its annual Christmas campaign to help the area’s neediest people, they have launched this virtual contest to showcase the Online Red Kettle as one of many ways to give to the effort that will:

  • Help feed hungry families,
  • Provide presents for needy children,
  • Heat the homes of struggling senior citizens,
  • And bless many who are in need.

To start an online kettle, participants may text BELLS to 313131, visit their Facebook tab or go directly to www.OnlineRedKettle.org. Click “Start a New Kettle,” and follow the simple instructions. All team kettles within the Midlands area will automatically be entered into the contest.

Participants are encouraged to email their teams’ kettle links to family and friends, and promote those links throughout social media to invite supporters to donate. Tune in to the Salvation Army of the Midlands on Facebook and Twitter for contest updates and details, and watch on the video trailer for a preview.
