The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in partnership with School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties delivered 2,520 bottles of water and more than 1,000 bags of snack foods at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport USO.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies as well as students, faculty and staff at School District Five schools donated the bottled water and snack foods for the USO, which will provide the water and snack foods to military personnel who utilize the airport.
Detective Steve Baumgardner coordinated the donation of bottled water and snack foods, Metts said. Baumgardner’s two sons served in the United States armed forces.
“Steve is proud of his sons and their patriotism,” Metts said. “This is the second year that Steve has coordinated donating bottled water and snack foods to the USO. Steve greatly appreciated how the USO cared for his sons when they were deployed.”
Metts extended his thanks to deputies with the Sheriff’s Department North Region Patrol District, which is based near Irmo, School District Five, Quality Tool and Repair, Skills USA of School District Five and Wescott Pet Resort for their donations to the USO.
The donation of bottled water and snack foods to the USO reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
