A new motion picture that opened nationwide on Friday, Sept. 28, tells the dramatic story of a parent, played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, and a teacher, played by Viola Davis, who join forces to fix their children’s failing school. Produced by Walden Media, “Won’t Back Down” is “inspired by real events.”

Representatives of Parent Revolution, the non-profit, non-partisan organization that helped parents in Adelanto, Calif., organize a Parents Union and take over their children’s failing school, will host a screening of the film in Columbia at AMC Dutch Square on Oct. 11, at 5:00 p.m. Following thescreening, Parent Revolution representatives will hold a town hall discussion to answer questions about Parent Trigger laws (depicted in the movie as theFail-Safe law) and the outcome of similar efforts in Adelanto and other communities.
