Halloween Trail of Treats
Halloween Trail of Treats

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will conduct the fourth annual Sheriff Metts Trail of Treats between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 27 at Wildcat Hollow Stadium on Ballpark Road near Lexington. The Trail of Treats is a family-oriented event that is intended to allow children to celebrate Halloween in a safe and secure environment.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts encourages parents and legal guardians to bring their children to the event. Admission is $1 per child. Children who are ages 12 and younger will be able to collect free candy at each motor vehicle or piece of equipment that is decorated with a Halloween theme along the Trail of Treats, which will be set up inside the stadium.

All proceeds from the event will be given to charitable causes, Metts said.

The Trail of Treats will feature entries from the Sheriff’s Department, other government agencies, businesses and community groups, Metts said. Businesses and community groups that are interested in entering the event are asked to call Lori Drafts with the Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-2557 or contact Drafts via email at ldrafts@lcsd.sc.gov. The deadline for placing an entry in the Trail of Treats is Friday, October 19. There is no fee to enter the event.

Each vehicle that is entered in the Trail of Treats event should be decorated with a tasteful Halloween theme, Metts said. Each business or community group is asked to provide enough candy for about 3,000 children to each get at least one piece of candy.

Sheriff’s Department employees will use a Halloween theme to decorate patrol cars and other law enforcement equipment as part of a trunk or treat competition, Metts said. Local businesses also will decorate work vehicles in a Halloween theme for the competition.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and K-9 Unit will conduct demonstrations during the event, Metts said. The Trail of Treats reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County.
