The Palladium Society, the young professionals society of Historic Columbia Foundation, continues its Renovation Rodeo tour series on May 21, featuring a home in Shandon.

 

This private tour series is a roundup of old homes in the Columbia area that have been refurbished and renovated while staying true to the roots and history of the house. Attendees get to see the renovation first hand while speaking with the homeowner and contractor who worked on the project.

Meeting scheduled for spring growers

 

A spring growers meeting to discuss compliance with labor rules and regulations is set for May 14 at the State Farmers Market, 3483 Charleston Highway, West Columbia.  The meeting is at 9 a.m. at the Phillips Market Center.

Representatives from the United State Department of Labor will present information important to farmers and growers and the operations they run. The meeting is open to all growers, labor industry professionals and agribusiness industry representatives. The session will include a question and answer time.

South Carolina State Museum announces "Between the Springmaid Sheets" exhibit

The South Carolina State Museum’s new art exhibit Between the Springmaid Sheets will be the occasion for an afternoon of fun activity on Saturday, May 18.  

The action begins at 3 p.m. with a gallery tour of the exhibit, which uses art to chronicle the rise of Springs Cotton Mills as a major player in textile industry after World War II.  The company’s good fortunes were chiefly due to the marketing savvy of Col.
